From research to practice, BFH Biel

The S-WIN conference "From Research to Practice" is held annually, alternating between ETH Zurich and the Bern University of Applied Sciences in Biel.

The objectives of the conference are the presentation and discussion of implementable findings and results from research activities.

The focus of the conference is on structural timber engineering and the preservation of the Swiss timber building culture. Engineers will be presented with new findings on the design of timber frame walls, on the shear capacity of ash glulam as well as on the consideration of climatic influences or on the performance-based design of the burning depth. In the second part, solutions and ways for building in existing structures, especially for Swiss log buildings, are presented in the field of building physics, fire protection and earthquakes.

The 16th Holzbautag Biel will take place on Thursday, May 11, 2023. Organized by the Bern University of Applied Sciences BFH together with Lignum/Cedotec, the symposium on the topic of "Continuing to build with wood: resource-conserving, materials-compatible, recyclable" will be held bilingually and is aimed at professionals from the fields of architecture and timber construction.
