International Activities

In many areas of the industry, the challenges in Europe are often similar.

Therefore, research and development is increasingly losing its boundaries, because jointly coordinated research across Europe offers great advantages for all.

S-WIN represents Switzerland in international projects and is involved, for example, in the industry-supported "Forest-based sector Technology Platform FTP". S-WIN links Switzerland with the EU via the National Support Group and ensures the exchange of information.

The FTP is the meeting place for industry, forest owners, and government agencies to discuss and build a critical mass of knowledge about the sector's shared research and innovation needs and decide on the best ways to collaborate.

In order to coordinate and concentrate national and regional R&D activities in the forestry/wood sector, the European Union has been supporting two programs of WoodWisdom-Net (www.woodwisdom.net) with a total of 4 calls since 2004 within the framework of its ERA-Net programs (European Research Area Network).

COST is a program for European cooperation in science and technology. COST Action FP1404 (2015–2019) provided a platform for the Europe-wide exchange of knowledge and experience in the field of fire safety for bio-based construction products. The aim was to promote the safe use of such materials and to provide impetus for the development of common standards.

Horizon 2020 was the EU's research and innovation funding program for the period 2014–2020 with a budget of almost €80 billion.

The program was replaced by Horizon Europe (until 2027)
