Innovation and collaboration in the timber industry

As part of the HOLZ 2025 Innovation Forum at the Holzmesse Basel, Swiss Wood Innovation Network (SWIN), together with the Bern University of Applied Sciences (BFH) and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH Zurich), created a dialogue platform entirely dedicated to wood innovation, circular economy and cooperation.

The event used concrete examples to demonstrate how research, industry and practice are jointly driving innovation along the wood value chain – from insulation materials to designer furniture to innovative bio-based materials.

Program & Content

Following the welcome and introduction of S-WIN by Lea Bernath, the focus shifted to specific company contributions:

  • Lignatherm wood fiber insulation boards – presented by Christopher Fehling, Schilliger Holz AG

  • Remnant furniture – Design made from leftover wood – Florian Oeschger, restemöbel

  • Timcelium – Sandwich panels made of wood and mycelium – Olin Bartlome, CLB Switzerland Ltd.

The program was rounded off by a panel discussion on innovation in companies in the wood industry, circular economy and forms of successful cooperation between research and industry.

S-WIN as a bridge builder

S-WIN promotes innovation by initiating forward-looking projects, thereby creating the conditions for competitive products, processes, and know-how. Based on the presented examples, participants gained practical insights into how innovation is implemented in practice – and what support services are available.
