The building envelope is arguably the component that must perform and ensure the most diverse functions and requirements. It lies at the interface between the (urban) outdoor climate and the indoor climate. Here, we face increasing demands for comfort, which must be met through structural design.
These demands have increased due to climate change-induced weather extremes (heat waves, heavy rainfall). New solutions are being sought and implemented. In doing so, the high structural and design quality of Swiss (timber) building culture should not be lost, alongside the technical aspects.
