2023 - From research to practice, BFH Biel

The S-WIN conference “From Research to Practice” takes place annually, alternating between ETH Zurich and the Bern University of Applied Sciences in Biel.

The aim of the conference is to present and discuss actionable findings and results from the research activities.

The conference focuses on structural timber engineering and the preservation of Swiss timber construction culture. Engineers will be introduced to new findings on the design of timber frame walls, the shear behavior of ash glulam, as well as the consideration of climatic influences and the performance-based design of the charring depth. The second part will present solutions and approaches for building in existing structures, particularly for Swiss log buildings, in the fields of building physics, fire protection, and earthquake protection.
